The yellow storm had a poor season in PSL 5, finishing in the play-off place after edging out Quetta Gladiators and Islamabad United. However, they were thrashed by Lahore Qalandars in the 1st Eliminator.
Since the start of the PSL, Peshawar’s key strength has been its great team combination and fast bowling unit. Last season, Hasan Ali’s injury troubles, combined with the loss of Umaid Asif and Chris Jordan to the Karachi Kings, left a hole in their bowling line, which ultimately contributed to their demise.
Zalmi only kept five players out of a possible eight, indicating that they intend to rebuild their team. Last year, fast bowler Wahab Riaz was picked as Darren Sammy’s replacement as captain. Wahab’s captaincy did not elicit the same emotion as Sammy’s, and this caused Zalmi to have ongoing issues both on and off the field.
However, because to their quality in every category, Peshawar is a team that should never be underestimated. Kamran Akmal, the wicket-keeper batsman, is the top run-scorer in PSL history and also has the most hundreds.
Wahab Riaz holds the record for most wickets taken in the event, with Hasan Ali coming in second. Despite the fact that Hasan has moved on from Zalmi, he still served them admirably for five seasons.
After a dismal season, Zalmi sought to freshen up their squad, and they did so by signing superstars David Miller and Mujeeb-ur-Rehman. They are both capable of winning games on their own, and they will give Zalmi with the x-factor.
Zalmi virtually totally altered their bowling unit for PSL 6 after a disappointing bowling performance the previous season.
Wahab Riaz remains the spearhead of this bowling team, but the fast bowling outfit now appears to be complete with the signings of Mohammad Irfan, Umaid Asif, Amad Butt, and Saqib Mehmood. Abrar Ahmed, a young spinner, and Mujeeb-ur-Rehman, an Afghan spinner, are the two spinners in the bowling line-up, giving Zalmi a variety of alternatives.
Zalmi’s hitting lineup appears to be solid as well. Peshawar’s veteran heads in the dressing room and on the field are Kamran Akmal and Shoaib Malik, with youthful and dynamic talents like Haider Ali and Sherfane Rutherford providing added energy.
The big hitters in the lineup, David Miller and Liam Livingstone, will be essential in keeping the momentum going towards the conclusion of the innings. Imam-ul-Haq will also bring consistency at the top of the batting order.
Mohammad Amir Khan, one of the most promising young prospects on the show last year, has been selected by Peshawar Zalmi in the supplementary category, alongside seasoned English batsman Ravi Bopara.
Peshawar has all of the ingredients to advance far in the game; they’ve covered all of the bases and will be one of the teams to beat in the PSL in 2021. Zalmi will be a force to be reckoned with, having four senior Pakistan international players in the roster.
